Chantal ARDITI

Biography

Chantal Arditi is an accomplished senior researcher whose career has been defined by her dedication for improving healthcare systems, particularly in the realm of patient-centered care and patient and public involvement (PPI) in research. With a diverse educational background and extensive professional experience, Chantal Arditi has made significant contributions to the field of health services research (HSR). She lead two national patient surveys in cancer care (https://www.scape-enquete.ch) and primary care (https://www.paris-sur.ch) in Switzerland. She is currently leading the GENDER-REACH project, which received a grant from the competitive NRP-83 call, addresses the critical issue of documenting sex and gender in medical records for trans and non-binary individuals. This project underscores the importance of inclusive healthcare practices that respect and reflect the diverse gender identities of patients.

She started her academic journey with the obtention of a Master of Arts (MA) in Sociology (with a minor in Human Geography) from the University of Geneva in 2003, followed by a Master of Science (MSc) in Health Studies and Gerontology from the University of Waterloo in Canada in 2006. From 2006 to 2009, she worked as a Research Associate at the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (IUMSP), where she conducted research in various aspects of healthcare delivery. She designed, conducted, and analyzed surveys of physician, patient and employee satisfaction and experiences. She performed and published comprehensive and systematic reviews (e.g., Cochrane review) and healthcare evaluations of complex interventions (e.g., chronic disease management programs), developing her aptitude for research methodology and data analysis and contributing to projects aimed at enhancing healthcare outcomes and patient experiences.

From 2009 to 2016, she continued her work in healthcare research while living in New York City (2009-2010) and Tokyo (2010-2016). Upon her return to Switzerland in 2017, she focused her research on patient-reported measures, integrated care, and patient and public involvement. She pursued a Doctorate in Life Sciences at the University of Lausanne from 2018 to 2023. Her PhD focused on patients' perspectives on cancer care, captured through patient-reported experience measures (PREMs), to evaluate the responsiveness of cancer care. Her findings from the Swiss Cancer Patient Experiences (SCAPE) revealed that despite high overall ratings of cancer care, areas such as communication and supportive care showed room for improvement, leading to policy recommendations and subsequent initiatives to enhance patient experiences and clinical practices in cancer care.
