CLAIR Carole

Biography

Carole Clair is a full professor of ambulatory general internal medicine and director of the school of medicine at the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne. She works as a general internist and researcher at the University Centre for Primary Care and Public Health (Unisanté), where she heads the Department of Ambulatory Care. 

After completing her clinical training and obtaining her medical degree and FMH specialist title in general internal medicine, she undertook a postdoctoral fellowship from 2009 to 2011 at the Tobacco Research and Treatment Center at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, USA. In parallel, she obtained a Master of Science in clinical epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health in 2012. 

She has developed a research interest in gender and health and currently leads several projects aimed at better understanding the influence of sex and gender in clinical medicine and at measuring gender in epidemiology. She also leads a project to integrate the gender dimension into the undergraduate medical curriculum at the University of Lausanne and across Switzerland.

She has been a member of the expert group "Gendered Innovations 2" of the European Commission. She currently serves as Chair of the Steering Committee of the Swiss National Science Foundation's National Research Programme (NRP 83) "Gender Medicine and Health”.
